MARIA Desktop is a ready to use GIS application that may be enhanced with customer specific functionality using the Module Software Development Kit (SDK). MARIA Component is a GIS module that can be loaded into a third part system using the Component SDK. MARIA component encompass a set of run time dll's and the component software development kit.
See the list of supported formats in MARIA White Paper, page 5. Note that MARIA also supports the Web Map Service (WMS) implementation from Open Geospatial Consortium. This feature provides access to maps from a huge and continiously increasing number of data sources.
Partly. We have developed a system providing a third party the capability of translating all text strings in MARIA into a local language. The text strings are available in a database hosted by Teleplan Globe and can be accessed through a Web Front End. After the translation process is completed, Teleplan Globe will build a MARIA version where all original text strings are replaced by the translated strings. This system supports most languages, but there are exception for languages such as for example the Chinese and Korean language. Most of the work connected to a translation process will be performed by the customer, but Teleplan Globe will require some hours to prepare the process and to build the translated version.
Yes. There are several mechanisms available in MARIA to hide functionality for the users. It can be removed "permanently" by using a license file genereated by Teleplan Globe where specific functionality is left out. Another option is to hide functions by using the MARIA exclude features concept that hides functions based on registry settings. The third option is to employ the built in user interface function to create workspaces that can include user defined MARIA functions, toolbars, windows and menu items. The user can change between workspaces by clicking one button in the user interface.
Yes. MARIA was originally developed for military customers in 1995. We consider that to be a benefit as we have been faced with tough military requriements both related to performance and functionality from the start. Most of the military GIS requirements are also applicable for non-military users, but we have developed a "Civilian Extention" Addin tailoring the user interface and some of the functionality for non-military users. This Addin is part of delivery to civilian MARIA customers.
The MARIA Software Development kits support C, C++ and any CLS compliant .Net programming languages (e.g. C# and Visual Basic.Net).
As of MARIA 5.1, we are using .Net Framework 2.0, Earlier MARIA versions use .Net Framework 1.1
The solution is to use MARIA Component and the corresponding component SDK.
For military users we have used APP6A as the main reference for unit and track display. We do however also support the STANAG 4420 and the Navy Tactical Display System (NTDS) symbol standard. For drawn objects, we have used MIL-STD 2525B as the basis for our implementation. Civilian and military user can also create their own symbols in MARIA. This could be done by using the built in symbol editor or by creating images in png format using any suitable image handling application. It is also possible to represent points using true type font symbols. MARIA contains built in functionality to utilize true type font files.
Teleplan Globe has decided to include most of the available functionality in a standard version. If the customers request less functionality, there are mechnisms available for hiding or removing some of the functions. The functionality contained in the optional modules (Optional MARIA modules) is the only modules that have to be purchased separately.
Yes. MARIA contains a built in module for radar and radio coverage calculations. Note however that Teleplan Globe have more specialized products within this area For further information ses Astrix and Frida.
